I have had many realizations over the past year that I think to myself, “Wow, I’m starting to get old.” One thing in particular is that I like watching the morning and nightly news. When my schedule allows it, I enjoy getting ready while watching The Today Show, and since as a consultant you are still on a college schedule, officers do not like to have meetings before 10 am. So many times I am able to catch parts of Kathy Lee and Hoda’s segment on The Today Show. If you have not watched this segment, it is truly entertaining and I would highly recommend it. It is considered The Today Show’s fourth hour and serves more as a standalone talk show. They discuss a wide variety of topics such as: new trends, beauty tips and celebrity gossip.
Several months ago, Hoda Kotb started discussing her new book she wrote and just released called, Ten Years Later: Six People Who Faced Adversity and Transformed Their Lives. I was immediately drawn to the title of the book and how Hoda described interviewing these six extraordinary people. One of the things I love to do on the road in my free time is read a good book. I decided to give Hoda’s book a chance because I enjoying watching her in the mornings and I was looking to read an inspirational book.
Story after story and quote after quote I found myself in awe of these stories and what these people had overcome. As Hoda put it, “Some of the challenges will make you wonder how the person got through the next 10 minutes…following the game changer, you will find out what steps (or missteps) each person took and how each has fared over the next 10 years.” Stories range from abuse, illness, addiction, grief and job loss. Ten Years Later will inspire and motivate you. I was able to take these six people’s lessons to improve my life. No matter the situation or background, their quotes and lessons are transferable to different aspects of life.
Here are a few quotes I took from the book and am applying to my life. Enjoy and check out Ten Years Later if you are looking for an inspirational book.
