I’m back with more about one of my favorite parts of traveling – food! I recently was able to take a short, three-day vacation to New Orleans with fellow consultants Hannah, Molly and Jordan A. Upon arriving after the least ideal travel day (and a half) ever, I could not wait to explore… and get a taste of some infamous creole dishes! We did so much eating that it felt like all we did was plan our next meal. Here are four of my favorite finds:
Café Du Monde is best known for their beignets, so naturally my first stop was to try some. These large donut-like treats were topped with powdered sugar and did not disappoint. I would recommend walking across the street to Jackson Square to enjoy!
The next day, we decided to check out the beautiful Garden District and happened to stumble upon a Food Network Triple D find. Joey K’s offered so many delicious choices such as shrimp po’ boys, jambalaya, and classic read beans and rice (and also sausage, which is not a part of the title). I would recommend all three!
Right next door was another Food Network find. You could imagine how elated I was for two finds in one day! La Divina Gelateria was featured on Rachael’s Vacation for their awesome homemade gelato. The bourbon praline was the perfect dessert.
The final day, we stopped by the Famous Gumbo Pot for gumbo, of course! The Gumbo Ya Ya made with chicken, Andouille sausage, and shrimp hit the spot. You must try it. And do not forget to add Louisiana’s Pure Crystal Hot Sauce… we promise that no meal is complete without Crystal.
If you happen to find yourself in New Orleans, definitely give some of these dishes a try. You will not regret it!
Until next time…
