Sweet, Simple Happiness

I do not think it would be a shock to hear that life on the road is not always glamorous. As leadership consultants, there are times when we are discouraged, frustrated, lonely or tired — just like anyone else in life. For me personally, I feel like my emotions run on more extreme highs and lows than before I had this job…and it makes sense. The good things about this job are really GREAT: we meet a lot of different people, travel the country, experience new cultures, and most importantly, we have meaningful work. The lows are really¬†difficult sometimes too…it is a challenge living out of a suitcase for four months straight, having our closest relationships be sustained through Skype, and no longer having the consistency and comfort of our home.

I have to figure out ways to overcome these obstacles though…and have found that little things can make a big difference. Here are a few ways I stay simply happy:

bringing my own blanket!
displaying pictures in my room!
writing myself motivational quotes!
carrying pictures in my portfolio to show people I meet who I love!
looking back on letters of encouragement!
a digital frame that displays hundreds of great memories!

In conclusion, yes there are struggles of the position, but every moment of discomfort is worth the amazing journey that being a leadership consultant offers. It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I encourage anyone interested to really consider this impactful and challenging experience. Applications are currently available at http://www.sigmakappa.org until Jan. 5, 2013!
